Changing the lives of many children and adults
Tamarukes have been proven to be loving, companions who are easy to train, intelligent, intuitive and loving, with allergy-friendly, non-shedding coats.
This incredible breed’s unique character and qualities have been developed for almost 30 years, and it’s these exceptional traits that make them such wonderful therapy dogs, comfort dogs, assistance dogs, medic alert dogs and comfort dogs.
Breeding/developing and training of therapy/facility dogs is a very specialised field of work – training is very considered, consistent, thorough and precise.
We’re proud of how our specially trained Tamarukes have changed the lives of so many special needs
children, people with a disability, people with medical conditions, and adults or children who are experiencing stress or trauma.
Regardless of what specific need our dogs have been trained for, the one thing all of our therapy dogs have in common is constant acceptance and companionship.
Our training process
Any trainer we recommend will have a passion for what they do and work above and beyond expectations for the best outcome for the dog and the recipients.
Therapy/facility dog training requires intensive and extensive work and dedication on our part and also the trainer.
Training and Socialisation must prepare the dog to be reliable, stable and comfortable in varied and unexpected situations. The dogs are crate trained, lead trained, house trained, and taught basic obedience and socialisation. They live in the home with the trainer who will constantly monitor, care and train them to best benefit their purpose after they leave us
Training and socialisation is a 24 hour per day – 7 days per week process.
Who do our therapy dogs help?
The majority of our therapy dogs are placed with families with autistic children, helping them to build emotional bonds with those in need and assist them in everyday life.
Children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are often characterised by marked difficulties in social interaction, impaired communication, restricted and repetitive interests and behaviours and sensory sensitivities.
Our Tamarukes offer a much-needed connection to these special children by engaging them in interactions/tasks they might otherwise not enjoy.
Families have seen amazing differences in their autistic child who has undertaken tasks they would not have attempted without their Tamaruke therapy dog.
Children and Adults with ASD enjoy a relationship of trust and acceptance with their Tamaruke therapy dog, as well as unconditional love, which is something society often does not provide in their daily lives.
What do our therapy/assistance and medic alert dogs do?
Tamaruke therapy/assistance dogs offer people with a disability the opportunity to live a more independent life.
Our therapy/assistance dogs also carry out certain tasks to assist their handler in everyday life, such as providing help to those in wheelchairs in retrieving items and opening doors.
Some of our Tamaruke therapy dogs also function as trained medic alert dogs, assisting people who deal with certain medical conditions such as diabetes.
Our medic alert dogs – alert their handler if their blood sugar levels is too high and some of our medic alert dogs have even brought their owners out of diabetic comas by licking and whining in order to call for help.
Tamaruke comfort dogs
We are proud to also provide the very special services of a new type of therapy dog known as comfort dogs.
A comfort dog is one of a very special group of specifically trained Tamarukes who are available to go into certain situations to provide comfort to adults and children who are experiencing stress or trauma.
Research suggests that simply patting a dog can decrease levels of stress hormones, regulate breathing and lower blood pressure.
Research also shows us that patting dogs releases oxytocin, a hormone associated with bonding and affection in both the dog and human.
Our comfort dogs can provide physical and emotional support just by being themselves and being available to those who need them.
Comfort dogs can assist people in a variety of different situations, such as after a traumatic event or during stressful a period in their lives. Comfort dogs are also used to lessen anxiety and depression in nursing homes.
All of our comfort dogs are very people focused, with excellent listening skills and they demonstrate nurturing, accepting and unconditional love. They don’t judge people – and they never talk back.
Tamaruke facility dogs
Tamaruke facility dogs are a highly trained and skilled type of therapy dog. Our facility dogs belong to their handler and they wear a special jacket while working so they can be clearly identified.
They all receive a certification card and they must be re-certified annually in order to ensure their level of training, stability and reliability remains consistent.
Facility dogs are certified to work in aged care facilities and schools.
They work with their handler alongside counsellors, therapists, psychologists, and rehabilitation therapists to motivate and inspire clients, including children who have suffered sexual abuse.
At Ellington we have a team of fully-certified facility dogs who are owned by us and available to visit Facilities to assist if needed
We are also able to recommend a trainer whom will train and prepare a Tamaruke as a Facility dog for the purpose of benefiting others.
He will provide ongoing advice and assistance to the family in order for them to carry on with the training he have conducted.
Tamarukes for PTSD sufferers
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a condition that can occur after a traumatic event. It can cause anxiety and even an inability to work. It is prevalent in war veterans and accident victims.
Tamaruke therapy dogs offer significant assistance to PTSD sufferers – they have been trained to work with individual needs. They offer comfort, often give more confidence to their handler in uncomfortable situations and assist in daily life.
Their gentle, intuitive nature offers calm and comfort often benefiting those suffering with PTSD.
Ask us about the difference the loyalty and companionship of a Tamaruke therapy dog can make for you or a loved one.
At Ellington we also believe in giving back to the wider community.
TALOODLES was founded in 2013 as a registered charity. Whilst we have no control over the charity organisation, Tamaruke donates all TALOODLES puppies to be trained as therapy dogs.
TALOODLES is a registered charity that assists in the care and treatment of people who have an intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory or physical impairment by acquiring and training therapy, assistance and comfort dogs.
